What your future may hold
As a knowledge lawyer M&A at A&O Shearman, you will be part of an established Belgian Know-How team as well as the Belgian M&A team.
A&O Shearman’s Belgian M&A team consists of 24 specialist lawyers based in their Brussels and Antwerp offices. This leading practice offers Belgian and international clients a combination of in-depth knowledge of the local market with the reach and expertise of a global legal practice. The team draws on its considerable expertise across M&A, joint ventures, private equity, equity capital markets, restructurings and advisory work such as corporate governance to provide innovative and cost-effective solutions.
Your responsibilities will be (i) capitalizing on legal expertise, (ii) knowledge management and (iii) contributing to client development. You will be the bridge between know-how, business development, and client-facing teams and will work closely with partners, associates, and the broader international know-how network.
Your tasks will include:
- Monitoring, analysing, and summarising key legal developments in corporate/M&A and beyond;
- Encouraging and supporting lawyers in enhancing their expertise through trainings, presentations, and practice notes;
- Leading and managing the practice group’s know-how projects and pacticipate in firmwide working groups, including AI-driven initiatives;
- Using your expertise to advise lawyers, cross-selling your practice group’s expertise and following up on queries from other practice groups and offices;
- Capturing and coordinating know-how across teams and promoting efficient knowledge-sharing, e.g. through document development;
- Contributing to and leading knowledge meetings and cross-border knowledge sessions;
- Initiating and promoting the use of innovative legal tech tools to ensure the most effective channels to market;
- Supporting client development through thought leadership, identifying legal trends, contributing to e-alerts, seminars and trainings, offering tailored insights, and providing legal input for client pitches;
- Participating in strategic discussions and management meetings, helping to shape the future of the practice.
Your skillset
- Belgian Master in Law;
- Solid experience as a (knowledge) lawyer in the field of Corporate/M&A;
- Excellent command of English and fluent in French and/or Dutch;
- Strong technical and analytical skills;
- Keen interest in AI, legal tech and innovation;
- Dynamic, proactive, and eager to take initiative and ownership;
- A strong team player mentality – someone who thrives on collaboration;
- Outgoing approach and a good business sense.
